Public health, medical research, and rare disease programs are facing unprecedented funding challenges. Recent and proposed federal cuts have created significant gaps in research, education, and community-based support—gaps that disproportionately affect rare disease communities like biliary atresia.

At Biliary Atresia Research & Education (BARE), we believe progress does not pause during uncertainty. Instead, it is propelled by committed partners who recognize the urgency—and the opportunity— to lead.

Private partnerships now play a critical role in advancing innovation, improving care, and ensuring families are not left behind.

Why Partner With BARE

BARE is dedicated to improving outcomes for individuals and families affected by biliary atresia across the lifespan. Strategic funding allows us to move faster, think bigger, and build programs that would not be possible through traditional funding streams alone.

Partnership with BARE means:

  • Direct investment in a rare disease with significant unmet needs

  • Transparent, mission-driven use of funds

  • Opportunities to support programs with measurable, lasting impact

  • Helping shape initiatives that advance care, education, and advocacy nationwide

This is not just support—it is leadership.

2026 Funding Priorities

BARE’s programs are designed to support individuals and families affected by biliary atresia across the full continuum—from early detection through lifelong care, community connection, and research advancement. We are seeking funding partners to help advance the following core program areas:

Caregiver & Patient Support Program

This program addresses the emotional, mental health, & practical support needs of caregivers & individuals living with biliary atresia. Through peer-based support, education, and community engagement, we help families navigate diagnosis, treatment, transplantation, and long-term outcomes—needs that are often overlooked in traditional healthcare systems.

Newborn Screening & Early Detection

Early detection is critical to improving outcomes in biliary atresia. BARE supports initiatives focused on newborn screening, early diagnosis education, and awareness among healthcare providers and families to reduce delays in identification and intervention.
